Blizzard....?

so i was just looking at video game stuff at work cus i was bored and then i saw job postings on the blizzard homepage. For those of you who don't know what blizzard is they are the company that made wow, starcraft, warcraft and etc. So im looking at the various jobs they are looking for and i see a header for BI... Business Intelligence. So that caught my eye and i was like hmmm lets check it out.

Data Analyst

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a data analyst to join our business intelligence team. The ideal candidate will have solid analytical skills, good knowledge of data warehousing and reporting, and programming skills for ETL maintenance and enhancement of stored procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the technical team and business users to create reports and perform analysis on game- and business-related data.
  • Design data warehouse star schemas on which to perform reporting and analysis.
  • Facilitate the migration of additional data feeds as required by the business to enhance the value of the data warehouse and reporting activities.
  • Optimize stored procedures and assist in performance tuning of reports and applications.
Pluses:
  • Experience with Oracle, SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, MySQL
  • Experience with the Epiphany CRM application suite.
  • Software development experience (.NET experience is desirable)
  • Experience with business intelligence / management reporting technologies

pretty much everything in bold was like sweet words to my eyes. All this work actually could pay off. Words that meant nothing to me only a month ago now are terms that i feel like i've used my entire life. Things that seemed like were useless are actually popping up in the real world. I am not only qualified but over qualified for that position at blizzard and its just cool that i actually understand exactly what they want and need. I can see what they are in need of cus thats what i have been doing for the pass month of grueling labor.

It feels nice to know that what im doing actually matters out there even though it doesn't feel like it.
